Christchurch Earthquake

Welcome to our blog site where students at the Royal Children's Hospital can follow our project. Our aim is to gain an understanding of the Christchurch earthquake and how it has affected the young people of Christchurch. Our hope is to fundraise money through our projects that will benefit those affected.

A new pizza oven for Chisnallwood Intermediate School Camp

Congratulations to everyone who has played a part in making the 2011 Trans Tasman Project so successful. Chisnallwood Intermediate School has decided to purchase a pizza oven for the school camp which is a terrific idea. The total amount raised in New Zealand Dollars was $2780.
We hope that students will enjoy making and eating pizza for many years to come :)

On behalf of the project team, thanks again and all the best for 2012!

Voting closes

Well we are nearly there. Thanks to everyone's tremendous efforts, we have raised $2006. A special mention to Bialik College who raised $501 for our project in less than 2 weeks. This humble compassion and support, along with the Station Hotel's wonderful $550 has seen us double our project target of $1000! And of course not to forget the wonderful donations from ties n cuffs and recognition ID. Without this wonderful generosity we certainly would not have been able to raise so much.

Scholastic books are also jumping on board and donating some books to Chisnallwood Intermediate School which is fantastic.

Voting has closed and the preferred choices have been narrowed down. These are:

19 votes- school camp repairs

14 votes- sports equipment & scholarship fund

9 votes- emergency kit supplies

Chisnallwood Intermediate school community will now have the final say and we will present the money towards the end of the week.

Thanks to each and every person who has contributed to this project and in turn made it so successful. You all should be exceptionally proud of yourselves!

VOTING IS NOW OPEN

Hi guys,

Please take the time to vote for your preferred choice for what the fundraised money should go towards. Remember that there is approx 750 11, 12  & 13 year olds.

Thank you to the students from Bialik College who suggested some fantastic ideas. They have also taken some of the remaining merchandise back to school  with them to sell, which is a tremendous help. Such willingness to help both local and global communities is a really wonderful  thing. Thank you :)
Voting closes next Friday the 18th of November, which will mark the conclusion of this wonderful project.

Thanks everyone :)

Chisnallwood students put some ideas forward. Bialik College lend a hand.

After returning back to school after holidays, students at Chisnallwood Intermediate have suggested a few ideas that we could put the money towards.  Here are a few ideas...

 - Repairs to Camp Taylor (school camp in Takamatua)

 - Sport equipment

- Backfield activities

 - books (Scholastic are already donating books)

I have asked the students to have a think about whether they would prefer an activity for themselves. If they prefer to have the money go towards school facilities and resources then that is perfectly okay too.

Keep an eye out towards the end of the week for a poll of the activities.  Please vote for your favourite idea.

While we are making the final decision, Bialik has graciously offered to sell some of our remaining merchandise. This is a lovely offer and will definitely help our wonderful cause.  Thanks guys - we really appreciate it!

The Station Hotel

A big thank you to the staff at the Station Hotel who have done a wonderful job supporting our project over the past 5 weeks. Today we received the wonderful sum of $550 to go towards out project. This is amazing and has taken our sum to approximately $1500!!   Thanks so much! - we really appreciate :)

Almost there

Last weekend saw the final weekend of the Rugby World Cup, which was also the final week of the Station Hotel selling our project merchandise. The BBQ and merchandise from the week before came in at over $280 which was fantastic. That brings the total to over $500 raised by The Station and we still have to include any money raised from the finals weekend. We are guessing that we will reach approx $1500+ which is absolutely amazing.

We have not been in contact with the students at Chisnallwood Intermediate for about a month, although they have just returned from school holidays this week. They are yet to advise us what they would like the money to go towards, so if we haven't heard from them by mid next week, we will be asking students here to make the decision.

Keep a look out over the next few weeks for the completion of the project as well as your opportunity to have your say about the wellbeing activity.
