Christchurch Earthquake

Welcome to our blog site where students at the Royal Children's Hospital can follow our project. Our aim is to gain an understanding of the Christchurch earthquake and how it has affected the young people of Christchurch. Our hope is to fundraise money through our projects that will benefit those affected.

Almost there

Last weekend saw the final weekend of the Rugby World Cup, which was also the final week of the Station Hotel selling our project merchandise. The BBQ and merchandise from the week before came in at over $280 which was fantastic. That brings the total to over $500 raised by The Station and we still have to include any money raised from the finals weekend. We are guessing that we will reach approx $1500+ which is absolutely amazing.

We have not been in contact with the students at Chisnallwood Intermediate for about a month, although they have just returned from school holidays this week. They are yet to advise us what they would like the money to go towards, so if we haven't heard from them by mid next week, we will be asking students here to make the decision.

Keep a look out over the next few weeks for the completion of the project as well as your opportunity to have your say about the wellbeing activity.

A big big thank you - we reached our target!!

Just wanted to say a very,  very  BIG thank you to everyone who has jumped on board and helped make our Trans Tasman project possible.  In particular to Giuseppe for contributing immensely and really managing the project for majority of the duration. To Allesha  for putting in so many of the hard yards with her students on 3east.  The project really wouldn’t have been so successful without  the work of you both.

Thank you so much to Andrew from Ties ‘n’ cuffs (donation of the pins), David and his staff at the Station Hotel in Prahran (selling our merchandise & the bbq)  and Martin from Recognition ID (donation of the pens). Your generosity is incredibly humbling and has allowed us to raise this wonderful amount.

To everyone else for selling, managing, eating, wearing, donating  and spreading the word – Fantastic and thank you!

AND FOR THE BIG NEWS…

Although we haven’t quite finished, we are pleased to inform you that we have actually surpassed our $1000 target!!!   We have approx $1300 and we still have a further  2 weeks of fundraising left. This is not including the fantastic Scholastic donation of books (thank you Glenda).

In the next 3-4 weeks the wellbeing activity for the students at Chisnallwood Intermediate School will be decided.  We will inform you  of the outcome and final amount raised.

Thank you again, you surely have contributed to brightening the day of these brave and resilient kids.

Greg Somerville BBQ a big success

On Sunday the 16th , before the Australia vs New Zealand Rugby World Cup semi final, Allesha and I went down to the Station Hotel in Prahran to support the BBQ that was being hosted by former All Black and Melbourne Rebels player Greg Somerville. The hotel manager Dave had organised the guest appearance, purchased the food and had very kindly decided that all proceeds would go to our Trans Tasman project. (THANK-YOU DAVE!!)  We found Greg to be a very warm  and personable person who was genuinely very interested in  our project.  From Christchurch, he has a very good understanding of the difficult times the community has and continues to go through and thought our project was great. Not only did he donate his time, he also made a donation which was fabulous:)

While Greg chatted to the patrons, Allesha and I took the opportunity to sell the merchandise throughout the venue. I must say the customers were exceptionally supportive and bought plenty of our merchandise.

We left before the game but I think we raised an additonal $200 which is fantastic.

A big thank you to the Station Hotel and all the staff for supporting us so tremendously. As some of you would know, the New Zealand All Blacks were victorious over the Wallabies and play in this Sunday's final.  This will be the last week the merchandise is on sale so  we will then see how much we have raised:)

Thanks again everyone,  top job!
